Is it to early for SPRING FEVER?

Life on a Chicken Farm No Comments

This winter has just been so brutal, I don’t think we had a day in months that it didn’t snow at least a little.

This past week has been really enjoyable, able to get rid of the heavy coats, boots, gloves and everything needed when you venture outdoors for any length of time, and most of the snow has finally melted.

But I guess by the weekend another cold front is coming through, I just hope that it doesn’t bring anymore snow with it.

I finally got my car on the road again, the cold just killed the battery and my windshied wipers at the same time.

I am looking forward to spring again, and to seeing all the baby chicks running around after mom and chasing bugs and anything that catches their eye.

Door to door sales people.

Yesterday, we had 2 guys show up at our door just about noon time here. At 1st I really thought that they might be Jehovah Witnesses, because they were all dressed up and also carrying briefcase’s, and they do stop here at least twice a month.

So I opened the door and found out they were door to door salesmen, and selling different types of Insurance, including term life insurance. We actually had a pretty good laugh when I told them who I thought they where.

And NO, I didn’t buy anything off of them…but I did enjoy just talking with them.

I need a BREAK

Life on a Chicken Farm No Comments

I have always been told that bad luck happens in 3’s, and right now that does indeed seem to be the case.

1st it was the refrigerator that died, the cost to replace it was $800 and some odd change.

2nd thing was the hot water tank, which was another $700 and then renting a water extractor in order to deal with the 2″ of water that soaked the back of the house.

3rd happen just yesterday and the 2nd TV died, that hasn’t cost anything YET, because there are around 5 tv’s in this house, so it was just a mattter of shifting them around a little.

Right now I am thinking of running away….lol

Christmas Shopping anyone?

Life on a Chicken Farm 3 Comments

Well, I actually started my Christmas shopping today. I figured I was going to get at least the easy shopping out of my way, and not wait until the last minute like I normally do.

My son is easy to shop for, he is always in need of work clothes and personal grooming items.

So I rounded up a bunch of coupons for shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream and I even got him a bunch of acne treatment products for next summer.

These will all be stocking stuffers, since they are all travel sizes that I ended up buying since they were so cheap because of the coupons.

Tread Mill time

Life on a Chicken Farm No Comments

We have a tread mill that sort of just got stuck into the closet awhile ago, so we got to cleaning out the closet and pulled the tread mill out and set it up.

I was really surprised to see that it still is in really good working order, except for the pulse oximeter, the wires look like they have been chewed up a little, so we are going to see if we can replace at least that part.

So now the tread mill is cleaned up, the belt has been oiled, and its sitting right smack in the middle of the living room floor.

Let me take you on a Sea Cruise

I was listening to the oldies station in my sons jeep earlier this evening , and I heard a song I have not heard in years. Do you remember the song? “Sea Cruise”, I know John Fogerty sings it, but I don’t remember who the original artist was either.

But now I will be hearing that song in my head for days. And being that my son changed the station pretty fast, I never did hear who the artist was.

I did a search and come up with all sorts of information on cruises, heck…I even found Tom Cruise….lol

Driving from Texas to Pa.

Life on a Chicken Farm 2 Comments

Back in the mid 70’s, I can remember very well, some of if not most of the trips driving from Killeen Texas to PA.

Most trips were pretty uneventful, I even remember hitting a little dog when we were driving through Texarcana, it was a little Boston Terrier that just ran right under my wheels, I felt so bad that we had to find a local motel and stay for the night so that I could calm down.

Then there was CHICAGO, I still shake when I think about the wreck that we drove up on during the wee hours of the morning. It was a bad one, the news crews were already on the scene, and we set for what seemed like hours.

We seen a young man, dressed very nicely, walking up through the line of cars to get as close as what he could to the accident, he was most an likely a Chicago accident attorney and looking to hand out his business cards.

We had 2 dogs with us, so as soon as the traffic started to move, we had to pull over to let the dogs out to do their business. So of course the highway patrol pulled in behind us to see what the problem was, then when they seen the dogs, they just smiled and told us to be careful.

Off to Walmart

Life on a Chicken Farm 1 Comment

Our local Walmart is an 18 mile drive for us, and that is a one way drive, needless to say, we don’t go there as often as what I would like.

But we do make a list, and at least once a month, we find ourselves headed in that direction.

So today I gathered up our list, and my sons lists, and had to laugh when I read his list because he had wrote on there in big red letters blemish acne cream. So of course I questioned it, thinking he was out of his mind, he has a beautiful complexion. So he pulled up his shirt and his back is just covered with acne.

He spends a lot of time in the summer out on a boat, so I think the river water might have something to do with it, so I got him his acne cream and got him a long handled sponge and told him to scrub his back as good as he could. He just laughed.

Another Project by #1 son

Life on a Chicken Farm No Comments

My son, he loves to buy ANYTHING that is used, and then fix it up and sale it, he can turn a pretty nice profit on most of the things he finds. But once in awhile he will come across something, something that he has trouble finding what he needs.

He is lucky that I spend as many hours online as what I do, I have helped him on more than one occasion to track down something that he was having a hard time finding.

His last purchase is a home theater system that he picked up dirt cheap at an auction 2 weekend’s ago, he brought it home in around 4 boxes, it needs new wiring and I think it will be good to go.

So anyway, I directed him to a place called CAT6, and he spent around an hour here and then walked away with a smile.

Today the UPS delivered a pretty large flat box of stuff for him and he is one happy camper.

Nags Head anyone?

Life on a Chicken Farm 1 Comment

I have often thought that I would really love to  see and vacation in Nags head, North Carolina.

I have seen some really beautiful pictures from a few friends who spend just about every summer there with their family.   From my understanding, they have a summer rental home, something like the ones that are offered by Outer Banks rentals.  For a large family, I would imagine renting private property would be the way to go.

Time Share property is something else I am interested in finding out about as well.
